I wanted to document my ordeal with my Pilonidal Cyst since there wasn’t a lot of info I could find when googling for it originally.
I wanted to first document the cost of all of it including the removal, since that is the path I chose:
In total, I had 1 doctor visit when it first started bothering me for which I don’t have the dollar amount. They wouldn’t remove it then since it didn’t show up on ultrasounds and it visibly was just a red spot on my tail bone (the had not noticed the sinus at that point).
In the next/final round of visits, I had one general doctor visit to show the doc and move forward ($140 billed, $10 after insurance). I then met with the surgeon to discuss options and do a pre-surgery screening ($109 billed, $20 after insurance). Next was a physical ($178 billed, $10 after insurance) to make sure I was good for surgery which included getting blood drawn ($154 billed, $43.87 after insurance) and having chest x-rays ($93 billed, $53 after deductible). Finally (at this point), there was the surgery ($1,274 billed, $72 after insurance).
It is also worth noting that I missed 3 days of work for doctor visits and a week of work for recovery. Before taxes, that equals around $2200 in potentially lost wages. However, I took sick days and one of the doctor visits was a vacation day.
I don’t have a log at the moment for all my meds, however I don’t believe I shelled out more than $50 for 2 10 days prescriptions of anitbiotics, percoset, and ibuprofin.
The only real medical devices or related things I purchased were a nearly worthless kneeling chair for $130 from Target online.
So in the end, this cost me around $380 out of pocket with insurance and close to $2 grand if I didn’t have insurance. eeg.
Lets hope it doesn’t get angry and I have to start adding to this total.
