You know how everyone thinks their kids are great and going to become a president, hero, etc? I wonder if back in the day, everyone thought their kid was the child of Zeus. Somewhere among thinking that children were just spontaneously born,
thinking gods/animals/etc could impregnate a woman, and the lack of understanding of ovulation, I think it is easy to see why men historically have not been a part of child rearing. Can you imagine Jerry Springer or Maury Pauvich back in ancient Rome? Epidideclese’s throws a chair at his him and the gladiators need to hold her down “You brought this curse upon the family because you didn’t pray to the Oracle of Mercury. Now I got knocked up by a pig. Look at our son!!”. ok. i’ll stop.
Is it bigotry to make fun of the belief systems of ancient people? Geico seems to think it is ok to have cavement be the butt of our jokes. The Greeks and Romans seem to have done fine. I think they can handle a little fun at their expense. Too bad the Iranians don’t feel the same…
