As seen on Tech Crunch tonite, Craig’s List is modifying their “Erotic Services” category and tightening up rules to stamp out the apparent widespread use of its site for prostitution.
Personally, my only interaction with Craig’s List was getting a crappy leather sofa I discovered was held together with duct tape, helping an ex pick up a bedroom set from the ghetto that was not as flattering in person as in the pictures, and giving away my old dishwasher to some metal scrappers. Granted, my experience with CL is limited, but I can’t imagine trying to solicit sex via Craig’s List. I do, however, know a handful of people who have used CL for dating. However, most of those ended with horror stories. So that brings me back to “I can’t imagine trying to solicit sex via Craig’s List”. Ew.
I’d also like to suggest that the majority of these “individuals” soliciting sex are either wire fraud scams or boarderline slaves to some pimp or escort service worsened by illegal immigration. I’m not a big fan of either.
Anyway, it would be interesting to see if the existance of Craig’s List and this change has respectively increased and decreased prostitution.
