Speed Up Your Mac - Kill Dashboard
I’m still no Mac expert. As such, I don’t feel comfortable reinstalling OS X on my year old macbook pro even though it is starting to get slow and clogged. The “Genius” at the apple store swore there are no “Temp Files” because Mac is too cool for that. I seriously doubt that. He insisted that I must have lots of music and movies I have downloaded to cause the slowness. This isn’t the case as it is my work laptop and in the era of Big Brother and the RIAA, I don’t want some song that was accidentally mislabled as “creative commons” to get me into some lawsuit. Blar.
Anyway, the first step was to disable my stupid dashboard. I found the info at this site and already my computer is faster. I never use my dashboard so it is pointless to always have running. So yup.
The command to kill it is: defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
And then you need to restart the dock : killall Dock
Boom. Increased performance!
