2008 AA Calendar - Almost Done…

I spent most of the day yesterday prepping the images for the 2008 Adamantine Arts fund raiser calendar. I ended up staying up until 4am or so getting the actual calendar ready. Meanwhile, Jon and I worked feverishly on the website side to get all the store bits working for the site. I’m pretty damn excited! Artists include Scott Stulen, Matt Wells, Joe Tower, Charles Denton, Anya Dikareva, moi and more… with lovely cover art by Sarah Jordet.

The only thing I was overly worried about was that the calendars might be too expensive. We are using cafepress for our printing and they charge $14.99 base cost. I have ordered 2 calendars in the past from them (the 2006 AA calendar and Andrew Cremeans 2004 calendar) and have been quite happy with the results. However, to add any worthwhile markup means that you are selling the calendar for over $15.00.

However, after a bit of research, I discovered that you can bulk order your own creations for a 35% discount. Their info on this seems to be fairly hidden. However, if you order more than 15 calendars, they become $9.74 each. This still isn’t cheap, but after checking out a couple more traditional printing companies, you need to order 1000+ to get the per-each cost anywhere near this price. I would like to try to sell 500, but that is even a bit optimistic.

With that said, I am contemplating how much to sell these for then. Obviously, you can go to the mall and buy a crappy calendar with kitties on it for $5. But, would you pay $10 more for fine art from independent artists struggling to make it and also know that $5 of that total cost would be going to help kids in your community through our youth mentoring programs? So yes. I am debating selling it for an even $15 including tax.

Anywho, I will post more once the cal is finished and proofed and ready for sale.
