In da Haus
I made an offer on a house on Saturday and didn’t hear back until yesterday. The seller is a real estate guy himself and needed to talk to his investor to figure out a counter offer. I was worried that this would mean that my offer wasn’t taken seriously… since I offered $30k less than the asking.
However, last night while out for Chay’s girlfriends birthday, I received a call from my realtor saying that they countered for $5k more. I am ok with that. I meet with the realtor in an hour or so here to go over the offer letter. Pending inspection within the next 5 days, the mortgage guy OKing the $5k increase, and making sure I have the $8k in unavoidable and prepay costs, I THINK I OWN A HOME! woooooo. Closing is June 3rd. I can already smell the back yard bon fires!
As an aside, while laying in bed last night letting my mind wander, I got really anxious over losing my job for some reason. I am not worried about getting fired, but I do worry about our department getting the ax. I emailed my boss’s boss last night with my house buying situation and he gave me confidence to go forward. I realize that the tech world is ever changing and that this probably isn’t a gig that is going to last my entire 30 year mortgage. However, I would be hesitant buying a place knowing that before the year was up, I would be unemployed and contributing to the whole house mess we are in now. yikes. So a special thanks to Tom again for being awesome and leading our group to success!
